Alone, Together.
It’s been an interesting week of running.
Some solo runs, some group runs and a lovely 6-mile Santa Run yesterday with my pal Jen.
Running is one of those rare things that’s both incredibly personal and profoundly communal.
I challenge anyone to stand at a finish line at any running event and not feel something as the runners come in.
Some run alone, some clutch onto each other, some chase the person ahead… the final stretch is a showcase of every human emotion, struggle, challenge and triumph.
They are extraordinary places to be.
Yesterday, the Santa Run was fun. Chatting with my buddy as we went, spotting familiar faces along the route, getting smiles and hugs (thanks Nicole!), and being cheered on by marshals, spectators braving the rain and even the car horns on the final stretch back to race HQ… it’s these moments that remind me that when you’re running, you’re part of something bigger.
Thinking ahead to whizz-bang events like the London Marathon, I can’t even imagine what it will feel like. The crowd support alone is I know, legendary, and it’s going to be unforgettable.
While I’m reflecting on the running community, I have to talk about the incredible business community supporting me too.
When I started this slightly crazy idea of “selling my miles” to businesses in exchange for shout-outs and thank you’s, I thought of it as me helping them. “What value can I give someone so that they can feel good about giving me money?” Was the main thought in my head.
What I hadn’t expected was how much they would end up supporting me.
People are picking miles not just because they like the number, but because they want to share that mile with me.
I’m coming to terms with people sponsoring me because it’s an awesome cause to raise money for and also because they want to support me. Lucy. The person.
Honestly, it’s blown me away.
So THANK YOU to this generous, amazing community. I can’t wait to share my miles with you on marathon day!
There are still miles available for sponsorship, so if you want to be part of this incredible journey, please get in touch.
And if you feel inspired to throw a fiver my way, my fundraising link is right here.
Thank you 🥰
