HR Backup
Someone in your corner for the people side of business
You’re probably perfectly capable of managing your people day to day.
You don’t need an HR consultant involved in everything.
But every now and then, something crops up and you think:
Am I handling this properly?
Is there something I’m missing here?
Can I just do this, or is it about to become a much bigger problem?
That’s what HR Backup is for.
It gives smaller businesses a proper look at how they’re managing their people, regular practical support and somewhere to turn when they need a second opinion.
Without paying for a full retained HR service.
Before you join your HR Backup, we start by working out what’s actually going on.
You’ll complete my Human Everything People MOT, looking across the way you recruit, employ and manage people.
It isn’t just a legal checklist.
I’ll look at your answers properly and pick up on the things that need attention, including any gaps, inconsistencies, risks and the stuff that can easily get missed when you’re busy running a business.
You’ll then get:
your People MOT report
my assessment of the areas that need attention via a one-hour call with me to talk everything through
clear priorities for what to tackle first
Joining fee: £200 + VAT
When you join, you’ll also sign up to the ongoing membership for a minimum of six months.
Start with your People MOT
Then I stay in your corner
HR Backup is £85 + VAT per month.
Every month you’ll receive my members’ email with useful HR updates, practical resources and things I think small employers actually need to know.
You’ll also get access to my members-only HR surgeries.
Two opportunities to talk to me every month
I run two member surgery sessions each month, usually one towards the beginning of the month and another around the middle.
If you’ve got something you want to talk through, you can book yourself a 30-minute one-to-one slot with me.
It might be an employee situation you’re unsure about, a conversation you need to have, something you’re considering changing or simply a sense-check before you do something.
You don’t have to book a call every month.
If you don’t need me, don’t book one.
Simple.
What if something can’t wait?
People problems may not be considerate enough to wait for the next surgery date.
If something crops up that genuinely can’t wait, you can email me.
If it just needs a quick steer, I’ll point you in the right direction.
If it needs a proper conversation, case support, document work or more involved help, I’ll let you know what support I’d recommend and any additional cost before we go any further.
So you’re not on your own, but if something needs more involved support, I’ll let you know what that looks like before we go any further.
Is this right for you?
HR Backup will probably suit you if you employ a small team and generally manage the people side of your business yourself, but would feel better knowing there was someone sensible to ask when you weren’t sure.
You want to get the basics right.
You want someone to spot things you might not notice yourself.
And you’d quite like access to an experienced HR person without having to employ one or pay for a full retained service.
What HR Backup isn’t…
This isn’t outsourced HR.
I won’t be managing employee cases for you as part of HR Backup, writing endless letters or being permanently available every time somebody sneezes strangely.
If you need regular hands-on support with employee issues, managers, difficult conversations or the wider people side of your organisation, my Human Relationships Partnership is probably a better fit.

If you’ve just got one specific thing you need help with right now, my project work may suit you better.

Ready to get some HR Backup?
If you’d like a bit more confidence around the people side of your business, without signing up for full HR support, this might be exactly enough.
You have questions? I have answers…
-
Small businesses don’t necessarily need a full-time HR person, but they do need somewhere reliable to turn when employee issues crop up. HR Backup gives you practical HR support when you need it, whether you’re dealing with absence, performance concerns, contracts or a people problem you’re not quite sure how to handle.
-
Outsourced HR support gives your business access to HR expertise without employing an HR manager. Instead, you can get advice and practical support from an external HR consultant when something comes up. It can be particularly useful for small businesses that are managing employees themselves but want someone experienced in their corner.
-
Quite possibly. Having a small team doesn’t make employment issues simpler, and you still have responsibilities as an employer. HR Backup is designed for smaller businesses that don’t need a traditional outsourced HR department but would rather not Google their way through every people problem.
-
Yes. If something starts going wrong with an employee, I can help you work out what needs to happen next and guide you through the process. That might include disciplinary or grievance issues, poor performance, absence or simply a conversation you’ve been putting off.
-
Yes. HR Backup isn’t an HR helpline or a call centre. You’re dealing directly with me, so you don’t need to explain your business from scratch to somebody different every time. That distinction is worth making because dedicated-consultant access is a common comparison point when businesses choose outsourced HR support.
-
No. HR Backup is deliberately lighter-touch. It’s for small businesses that are happy managing most day-to-day people stuff themselves but want access to proper HR advice when they get stuck. If you need somebody actively managing your HR on an ongoing basis, my Human Relationship Partnership is likely to be a better fit.
-
Yes. We start with an HR MOT so we can see what you already have in place, what might need updating and where there are gaps. From there, you can decide what you want help fixing rather than paying for a load of HR stuff you don’t actually need.
-
Yes. Human Everything is based in Worcestershire and works with small businesses locally across Worcestershire and the West Midlands, as well as supporting businesses remotely across the UK.

Yes. Most HR Backup support can be provided by phone, email or video call, so you don’t need to be based locally to work with me.
