Messing About
Last week in total I ran 26.2 miles.
It wasn’t planned, it just turned out that way.
Serendipity.
It’s a sobering thought though.
I was knackered by the end of the week… and that’s the distance I need to do on race day.
Bugger.
Still, that’s what the training is for I suppose.
I snuck a couple of days off work last week and as the sun was out, on Friday I headed out along the canal feeling like I was properly on holiday. As I was trotting down the towpath, I started thinking about fundraising.
I did a big fundraising thing, gosh, about 23 years ago (blimy!). I did a sponsored bike ride across Cuba and had to raise a bucket load of money for that, and training aside, the fundraising was hands down the hardest part. It took over everything.
So here I am again, with another fundraising challenge and as I let my mind ponder on this it occurred to me that with Halloween coming up, maybe I could shake down a few pockets with a money raising challenge that involved some kind of running in fancy dress.
Who doesn’t love a bit of fancy dress?
So for the rest of my run, I started messing about. Filming bits here and there to make it look a bit interesting, including the worlds most lackluster jump that’s ever been recorded… and to announce my newly hatched plan.
You can see the final cut here:
Well, it worked!
A whole bunch of brilliant people - some I haven’t seen since I was at college (and that was even longer ago than the Cuba thing), stepped forward and chucked money in my pot and now here I am, planning my ghostbusters costume for a 5k run around Kidderminster on Friday.
I’ll be making another video so if for some weird reason you don’t fancy hanging about in the rain, in Kidderminster at about half 5 on a Friday (what do you mean you have better things to do???) then you won’t miss out.
If you feel like encouraging this tired ghostbuster, you can bung me a tenner here.
I’m still in the market for selling my business miles too - so if you’re a business owner, want to do something INCREDIBLE today and sponsor me for a mile of your choice, you’ll get a shout out from me, at your mile, on race day. That’s right - I’ll be taking you with me to the London Marathon itself.
It’s a £100 minimum sponsorship for this, but drop me a note if you’re interested… miles are starting to go so le me know which mile you want!
