Weaponised Pony Tails
Last week was a GOOD run week!
I did a 3 mile treadmill run on Monday which took me approximately 3 days, 11 hours and 93 minutes.
We did a relay based efforts session with our lovely running group on Tuesday. (There really ARE abs in there somewhere because my insides hurt every time I sneezed from Wednesday onwards…)
I did a 4 mile hill circuit on Thursday. Grrrrrr. Hardcore.
And then Storm Amy hit so my long run on Saturday was diverted from the forest (which was closed) and I ended up going along the canal.
Running in the wind is good and bad in equal measure. I mean, with the wind on your back, you feel like there’s nothing you can’t do.
Along you blow, running feels effortless and the only thing that gets in your way is a pony tail whacking you in the face if you forget to tie your hair properly back.
(True story).
On the downside, running INTO the wind feels like your very soul is being sucked right out of you. Right up out of your eyeballs actually.
And of course, running in wind is governed by one of those typical laws of life which goes along the lines of “the negative impact of a headwind is roughly double the positive effect of a tailwind of equal strength”.
So the bad bit is twice as bad as the good bit is good.
Bloody typical, eh?
So it ended up being an 8 mile run on Saturday which meant I got as far as the farm before I had to turn around. The pigs that hang out on that stretch were skidding about, whizzing up and down in their pen, a stark contrast to the duck flotillas that had grounded themselves on the side and were bunched up with their heads tucked in, just riding it out. They didn’t look like they were having such fun times.
I wonder what animals think when the weather goes a bit bananas and where do all the birds go?
If you’re interested in supporting my fundraising endeavours as I train for the London Marathon pondering these and other important questions, you can add to the kitty right here.
