I’ve been running for a long time but I’m smiling as I slow down
After a decade of trying to get in… here we are.
6 days to go until the London Marathon.
I tried every year to get in through the public ballot.
Every year I got the “sorry, not this time” result.
Then when this opportunity came up to run for Wyre Forest Nightstop, it was a very easy “hell yes please!”.
And now? The training is done. The fundraising target hit. Everything booked.
There’s nothing left now but to turn up on Sunday and run.
(And also not getting ill, injured or dead between now and the weekend. 🤞)
So this week is tapering - a handful of easy runs, not too far, not too fast, just to keep the legs ticking over. Taking a breath. And taking the time to enjoy the slowing down.
I’m pleased and I’m nervous.
But more than anything else, I think I’m ready.
10 years in the making… the road to London has taken it’s time. It’s not been without its bumps in the road. I never thought I’d be raising money for it but I’m thrilled that this is the way it’s worked out.
The support from people know me and who don’t know me, the sponsors who have been so generous, the encouragement from everyone at the charity… it’s all built to become something more wonderful than just me on the road on my own.
And I suppose if the road to London has shown me anything, it’s that it’s better with people alongside you.
And that’s what the London marathon is.
Thousands of different stories. Different reasons. Different “whys”. All coming together to run the same road.
I’m ready for it.
There is of course, still plenty of time to sponsor me and you can hit this link to get to my fundraising page. Thank you x.
