“Did you er…swim or run?”

THAT'S how soggy I looked as I walked back into the office just now.

It’s been three weeks and five days since I was first knocked sideways by illness.

Basically the worst illness in the entirety of human existence.

I’ve had a few attempts over the last week to ease myself back in, but here we are on a properly wet, rainy Tuesday with an interval run on the training plan so I decided “what the heck, let’s just do it”.

I headed out onto a very wet and muddy canal.

There was an actual out-loud squeak of delight when my watch told me I was on my cooldown and not, in fact, facing two more reps.

Turns out, I can't count.

Small wins.

I can feel it in my lungs a bit now, but I’m really glad I got out there and got it done.

The faster pace was there. The slower pace… less so. By that I mean, I was going slower than it wanted me to on the slow bits 🙃 But that’s where I am.

Days like this are the ones that make the effort and the support feel worth it. Knowing that other people have sponsored me and are backing me through this makes these hard bits feel a bit better.

I’m pleased to have taken another step back onto the training wagon. I’m really looking forward to feeling as strong as I did a month ago. We’ve still got two and a half months until marathon day, so I’m holding my nerve, trying not to panic and trusting that the fitness will come back. 🤞

Legs feel good. Breathing could be better. But there’s still everything to play for!
